Inspirations 6

Superhexagon is a wonderfully simple game, the player has the ability to rotate around the centre point which they must do to avoid colliding with walls, all of this happens at fast speeds with disorientating spinning and beating to the music, the game has really simple visuals mostly based around the hexagon shape creating a hypnotic tunnel, the music and changing colours add to this.

It's amazing how the game is so visually engaging when so simple and with very little mechanics beyond movement, the player reward is largely based on people competing with their friends, as well as wishing to progress into harder difficulties, but I would argue that there is as much reward from the mesmerising fast paced visuals.

Another beautiful and very visually simplistic game is 'Thomas Was Alone' a story about a little orange rectangle named Thomas that moves and jumps who starts to discover new friends (other shapes) that can do different things and they solve puzzles together, its a nice narrative and although the visuals are nice the game is more commendable for its game design rather than visual style.

I have also come across an interesting artist on the creators project website (http://thecreatorsproject.vice.com/blog/perfectionist-paper-structures-resemble-viral-colonies) that uses paper and acrylic to make fairly complex bacteria like sculptures, they are really visually interesting and remind me of canyon like landscapes.

This style also reminds me of a 3D music video I recently watched, by Atoms for peace shown below

Which led to my friend showing me this because it was similar, I am really interested in the abstraction within both pieces and the way they present humans in relation to the world around them.
